The Twelve Cutaneous Regions of the Regular Channels
The twelve cutaneous regions indicate the superficial range of the twelve regular channels on the body surface. As the Suwen describes, "The skin region belongs to the system of regular channels"0
The cutaneous regions are closely associated with the internal organs. Therefore, exogenous pathogenic factors can gradually be transmitted to and invade the internal organs through the cutaneous regions. Conversely, the diseases of the zang-fu organs can be reflected on the cutaneous regions of the body surfaces. This theory of cutaneous regions has a practical value for the application of diagnosis and treatment in traditional Chinese medicine.
